We've all now received a notice about additional upcoming redistricting in Zone 8. For those who have been through the merge of districts 9810 and 9820 into 9815 and the elimination of clusters, this may seem like negative news. I don't necessarily disagree. It was difficult to believe our District Governor would be able to meet with each and every club in the merged district. This change would make that impossible.
But I do want to remind us all, me included, that the club remains the most important thing. Other than a few compliance requirements, which I happen to think are extremely necessary and important, we run our club as we choose. We know our community, our neighbour clubs and our own interests and abilities. We've done it pretty successfully, even when it's been a challenge, and we've provided help and service to people in Whitehorse and much, much further afield for decades. We're going to keep doing that, no matter what the structure at the district or zone level or beyond looks like.
On a less dramatic note, yours truly was not there at the crack of dawn in Kilsyth, though a team of ten Rotarians from our club and Lilydale was. I strolled in late at about 8:30. The 20-foot container was all packed by a shade past 10 am, which is pretty good, and another five playgrounds will be heading off tomorrow.
Everybody in the club who manages or supports a great project -- and they're all great -- should be incredibly proud of and pleased by the work they do. You make the world better, and I'm glad our club is made up of people like you.
The Rotary Overseas Relocated Playgrounds (RORP) project harvests playgrounds and ships them to Rotarians in countries such as Sri Lanka, Fiji, Mongolia and the Philippines, where they are re-installed.
Last Saturday, ten Rotarians from Nunawading, Lilydale and Wandin clubs packed 5 playgrounds into a 20-foot container. The container was donated by the Rotary Club of Melbourne and will depart for Timor Leste on Monday.
Our club is a Premium Sponsor of the Jets Junior Football Club who have teams catering for boys and girls from 8 to under 18. See their website for more details about the club: https://www.jetsjuniors.com/
This Sunday 19 April, there will be Family Night from 4 to 6.00 pm as well as the commencement of the 2026 junior season. Featuring our club, the Jets already have retractable banners inside the clubrooms in position and signage attached to the oval fence. The footy club and cricket club share the oval facilities, six months each.
If club members are able to attend, I suggest being there from 5.00 pm would be good, to enjoy the camaraderie combined with refreshments that are available at the clubrooms. The club is located at Heatherdale Reserve, entrance off Purches Street, Mitcham.
This year our club is again sponsoring the Sports and Life Training [SALT] sessions which cater for various age groups, usually held during May and June each year. The SALT presenters are experts hired in by the footy club, based on the presenters from last year.
Our Trivia Night on May 30th should be fun and relaxing. Many laughs are guaranteed.
This year we want individuals to came along. We can make up tables of approximately 8 people. Come along as a couple or a single and still have lots of fun.
