Trivia night numbers are growing and so is the sense of anticipation. The fundraising team has organised some really nice prizes and silent raffle items for your consideration on the night, thanks to some generous donors. The tables are filling up but it's not too late to snag an empty seat, however. The link is here.
Last week we heard from Shane Jay, founder of Safe Roads for Us, a road safety education program which aims to stop accidents before they happen. He turned a bad decision and outcome into a choice to help stop others from making similar mistakes, which is incredibly inspiring.
This Wednesday we'll all hear from our next President, Shia Smart, about her vision for the 2026-27 Rotary year for Nunawading.
If you have a memory of Bob Allardice you'd like to share with me, please do. We'll be taking some time at Changeover to remember Bob, one year on, and the profound effect he had on the Club, its members and the project that was so important to him.
As always, we have our regular Blackburn Lake Sanctuary working bees, Bunnings sausage sizzles and the Whitehorse Farmers Market. And of course there's the Umbrella Dementia Cafe catering provision. I found out only recently that my neighbour just down the street is a volunteer there. He started attending as a carer, so he knows just how much it means for both the people with dementia and their loved ones. That he saw the value and made that decision is an indication of just how valuable and meaningful the project is to the people who attend.
I'll see you on Wednesday. If you're not coming PLEASE send through your proxy vote on the club rules and by-laws.
At the moment we only have 4 volunteers. Another 4 would make the job easy. The tables are not small, so we need a few people around. A couple of people could also set up the kitchen for tea and coffee and tables to display our auction and raffle prizes.
The night is a fellowship night. A night of fun, but it is also a significant fundraiser.
I hope you are working on selling the Community Raffle Books. It is important that we get a good response as all the money raised comes back to our Cub and we can use it on non-local and international projects.
Please don’t forget you have them, they are easy to sell at only $2.00 a ticket, or $20.00 a book of 10 tickets. Please return any sold raffle book butts and money to Roger Wilson.
We still have until early June to sell the books, so if you need more let me know and I will organise them for you on my return from Japan.
Many thanks to Shia, Don and Janette for the wonderful contribution to the special women afternoon tea at Dementia Cafe . The spread this week was a real tribute to all the wonderful women. Next cafe Wednesday 27th May - thank you in anticipation.
Please add your volunteer commitments to the Sign-Up Liat.
Our next Ryda day that we usually assist with is Fountain Gate Secondary College at Sandown Greyhound track and that will be Thursday 11th June. I will also ask Berwick club, but they weren't able to help last year. I think it will be up to us to try and provide the 6 personnel required.
The next day is Vermont Secondary at Lilydale on Thursday 18th June and we have 4 so far in Roger, Gabby, Graeme and me, so we need another 2 please.
Other clubs are covering three other June days then a new school being Mount Lilydale Mercy College at Lilydale on Monday 22nd June so it would be good to partner Lilydale club each providing 3 people.
To summarise: we require 6 for 11th June, 2 for 18th June, then 3 for 22nd June.
Please let me know if you can assist with any of these days.
The next Whitehorse Business Group (WBG) networking event is on Friday 12th June.
Quest Burwood East and Mont Albert have been supportive of Rotary Whitehorse clubs and Eastern Emergency Relief Network. It would be good to have a presence.
Register here. As members of the WBG, there is no charge for Nunawading Rotarians.
For those of you who shop at Coles, you may know there is a KitchenAid program running at the moment where you can get credits and trade them in for saucepans, frying pans etc. You can't accumulate credits after 12 May 2026 and have to trade them in by 19 May 2026.
If anyone has credits that they wish to use, and you are happy to donate the items, Eastern Emergency Relief Network would be very grateful for the 2-utensil kitchen packs (pictured). You can get a pack for 20 credits.
