I related some information about Parliament's electorate officer conference at the meeting on Wednesday night. In hindsight, and with the benefit of having listened to PDG Dr Daryl Moran speak about his book, Empire's Noble Son, I want to again reiterate the idea that there are so many fascinating, impressive and amazing people around us whose stories and work go uncelebrated. That's not to say that Lyle Buntine isn't a particularly worthy subject, it's just that examining the lives of the people around us almost always reveals strengths, abilities and stories most of us do not get to hear about.
We see this every time we have a club member give a Rotarian Behind the Badge presentation. We hear about it at our annual Youth Achievement Awards. Most of us will not have a book written about us, but most of us are much more than what's visible on the surface and are worthy of recognition and attention for what we do.
What's coming up? Remember that we have our Trivia Night at the end of the month. This Wednesday we'll hear from Robyn Stephens about St John Ambulance and AEDs. The week after that, on 13 May, we'll hear from Mel Slocombe, the principal of Aurora School where, not so coincidentally, our Trivia Night will be hosted.
On Saturday 9 May there will be a Blackburn Lake Sanctuary working bee and on Sunday is the Whitehorse Farmers Market, where we'll be serving up egg and bacon sandwiches, and possibly picking up brunch ingredients. That's also Mothers Day, for anybody who needs a reminder.
Have a great Rotary day and I'll see you on Wednesday,
It was another verry successful sausage sizzle at Bunnings Nunawading. A massive Thank You to all who assisted. Roger counted the sausages just like he counts the money. We sold our last sausage at 4:01 pm.
It was a baptism of fire for our new member Steve, but a great way to informally get to know some Club members. This one was probably the first one that I was almost totally involved in co-ordinating. Thanks to all who played their role. The Rotary Club of Nunawading is a well-oiled machine. It makes organising easy.
Russell and Roger will have the financial figures later.
Our Trivia Night on May 30th should be fun and relaxing. Many laughs are guaranteed.
This year we want individuals to came along. We can make up tables of approximately 8 people. Come along as a couple or a single and still have lots of fun.
You will be able to select which table you wish to be seated at. When you register you will receive an invoice. Please pay into the club General Account quoting the Invoice Number.
