   Shia's Message
Hello all,

What a wonderful morning I enjoyed at Sunday’s Farmers Market!, seeing Bob L and Steve proudly flew the RC Nunawading flag while welcoming visitors at the front gate, and Althea filled her trolley with an abundance of lovely market produce. It was uplifting to see the market buzzing with people of all ages, enjoying the sunshine, the friendly atmosphere and the fantastic produce on offer.

On Friday night, nine of us came together to enjoy the culinary delights of Lebanese cuisine at Mazaj Lebanese Restaurant & Lounge at Forest Hill Chase. Our first social dinner was a delicious success, and a wonderful reminder of how much joy comes from sharing good food and great company.

At our meeting on Wednesday, PDG Colin Byron spoke about the Red Energy Project and club membership—two important areas where more people involved, will help us build lasting momentum.
As people look for new ways to get involved in their local community, Rotary clubs have an exciting opportunity to adapt, welcome new members and grow our impact. Together, we can turn this challenge into a positive path forward.
RC Nunawading is proudly a recipient of a Red Energy Project grant to continue our support of the Brickworks Dementia Café
BINGO on Friday 23rd October – Book your tickets now and get ready for a fantastic night out! Book Bingo Tickets. It promises to be a fantastic night filled with fun, laughter and great company, so gather your friends and join us!
Wishing you a wonderfully fun and fulfilling week ahead. Let’s keep sharing kindness, celebrating fellowship and working together to Create Lasting Impact in our community.
Membership & New Clubs

Building Strong and Thriving Rotary Clubs. Membership is everyone’s responsibility.

Change is needed to re-vitalise Clubs and move away from traditional Rotary models of adding one new member at a time, and where meetings can take over from service and impact. A focus on great Club experience and meaningful service for membership growth is improving, but the long-term trend remains challenging.

Great Club experience is central to retention.

Important Membership Strategy is to retain members longer, especially when a new Club is tied to a cause people are passionate about. Meaningful causes attract younger members because they can design a Club around their needs and schedule. Reaches further into the community and increases partnership opportunities – especially for cause-based Clubs.

Flexible Club models create new pathways into Rotary.

Often formed by current members who want a different Club experience.

Satellite clubs are easy to establish – minimum 8 members. Have flexible meeting times and locations. Focus on service rather than meetings. Can have a different Club culture and a distinct value proposition. Satellite club must have a Host Club, which provides the overheads and administration. The Satellite Chair sits on the Host Club Board.

New clubs can grow and reach new communities if they are cause-based – focused on a specific community need or cause.

Interest-based – for example, professional development.

Corporate-based.

Alumni-based – such as RYLA alumni.

Language or cultural inclusion-based.

International project-based – for example, modern slavery.

Other examples cited: wildlife protection, homelessness, empowering women and girls, music makers and e-Clubs.

RYDA Feedback

Correspondence from Adrienne at Forest Hill College:

I just wanted to write to express my sincere gratitude for your ongoing support of Forest Hill College.

Yesterday, I was fortunate to accompany a group of Year 10 students to the RYDA program, kindly sponsored by your club. I was blown away by the quality of the program, as were the teachers who accompanied me. The feedback from our students was also extremely positive.

The sessions were informative, interactive and thought-provoking, with the Crash Investigation session being particularly powerful. This session was supported by Shane, a young man who had been imprisoned for dangerous driving. Hearing his story and reflecting on the decisions he made on the day of the accident had a profound impact on everyone in the session. I am sure his story will stay with our students for a long time and encourage them to think carefully about the consequences of their actions.

Thank you for providing our students with the opportunity to participate in such a valuable program and for your continued support. We were also fortunate to be supported throughout the day by both ‘Bobs’ from your club, who were a fantastic help.

Once again, thank you for your ongoing support of Forest Hill College. Please be assured that your generosity and commitment to our students is greatly appreciated.

Knox Art Show
Whitehorse Art Show

The 60th Whitehorse Art Show is a milestone event, and are seeking your support to help make it our most successful show yet.

This year, proceeds from our event, raffles and auctions will support WERS (Whitehorse Emergency Relief Services), an organisation that provides vital assistance to local individuals and families facing hardship. Every contribution helps us increase the support we can provide to those in need within our community.

The Art Show Committee has been working tirelessly to create a memorable celebration of this remarkable 60-year tradition, and we'd love to have you join us for the Gala Dinner. Co President Lyndon Smith and I would be delighted if your rotary club would consider supporting our 2026 Rotary Whitehorse Art Show by booking a table for our Gala Dinner on Wednesday 28th October 2026

It promises to be a fantastic evening featuring:

  • A delicious two-course meal
  • Wine and soft drinks
  • Great fellowship and fun
  • Special guest MC Jonathan Usher, New Zealand's magician extraordinaire

Most importantly, your attendance helps support both the Art Show and the community organisations that benefit from its success.

Bookings for the Gala Dinner can be made at www.whitehorseartshow.com.au

Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
