   Shia's Message
Hello all,

What a wonderful week for our club — we are delighted to share that two grants have been awarded to us. The first is a generous $3,000 grant from Red Energy through the Red Rotary D9815 Saver Program, helping us continue our valued work with “Supporting the Carers – Umbrella Dementia Café.” A heartfelt thank you to all our members, family and friends who support the Red Rotary D9815 Saver plan for their gas and electricity. The $5 contributions Red Energy gives on your behalf for each plan truly add up and make a meaningful difference.

The second grant comes from the District Rotary Foundation Committee, which has approved our request for an Education Grant. We are delighted to have received $500, and our club will match this amount, allowing Forest Hill College to offer practical support to students facing financial hardship.  Thank you to all our members who contribute personally to the Rotary Foundation; your generosity, along with the support of clubs across the district, helps make meaningful grants like this possible.

If you follow RC Nunawading on Facebook, I hope you saw and enjoyed Saturday morning’s post featuring honorary Rotarian Dick cooking up a storm during the first shift at Bunnings Nunawading. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the BBQ possible — these events are a wonderful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together as a team. We look forward to hearing how the rest of the day unfolded, especially after a very quiet start to the morning.

Last week, we had the privilege of hearing from Lillie, founder of FOFA (Feed One Feed All), and Eleanor, a dedicated volunteer. They shared the inspiring work FOFA does each week, preparing thousands of meals for 33 different agencies across the outer eastern areas.

This Wednesday is Dementia Café day once again, offering another lovely opportunity for us to show care and support in a practical and meaningful way. If you are able to help by providing afternoon tea — sweet or savoury, bought or homemade — please indicate your availability by clicking the link: Volunteer for Dementia Cafe. Every contribution helps create a warm and welcoming space for those who attend.
To all the fathers and father figures in our community, I hope you had a joyful and relaxing Father’s Day.

Wishing you a sensationally fun week ahead as we continue to share kindness, enjoy fellowship, and Create Lasting Impact together.
Rotary Theme of the Month

Feed One Feed All

FOFA Presentenced by Lillie Giang and Elanor Hill. Welcome Daren from Knox Rotary

Feed One Feed All (FOFA) is a nonprofit organisation and registered charity committed to supporting vulnerable members of our community who are facing food insecurity.

Lillie started FOFA after 2021 storm in the Yarra Ranges to assist in providing meals after the disaster. Their mission and belief is for nobody should go hungry by supporting those in our community facing food insecurity by providing nutritious home cooked meals; making a difference, one meal at a time.  The 2026 target is 80,000 meals. Volunteer drivers collect meals for distribution.

The team of 150 passionate volunteers work tirelessly on 2 shifts, 3 days per week to provide meals to various community groups including elderly people who are unwell, those transitioning home from hospital, people experiencing homelessness, individuals struggling with mental health issues, those escaping family violence, and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders in difficult circumstances.

Feed One Feed All also address the issue of food wastage and promote sustainability by upcycling donated food to create home-cooked, nourishing meals for those in need.

FOFA partnership with organisations such as Foodbank and Outer-East Foodshare, source produce that would otherwise be thrown away due to cosmetic imperfections or excess stock that farmers can't sell. These ingredients with additional protein and ingredients to create delicious and nutritious meals.

FODA are open for new volunteers on the FOFA website https://www.fofa.org.au/volunteer-form , from meal preparation to administrative tasks such as finance, logistics, marketing or public relations. Tax deductable donations can be made on the FOFA website https://www.fofa.org.au/donate which will go towards purchasing essential ingredients for nutritionally balance meals and utility payments to run the kitchen.

The Rotary Foundation - Message from Holger Knaack  2025-26 Trustee Chair The Rotary Foundation

Thanks to Rotary leaders, members, donors, and supporters worldwide, The Rotary Foundation continues to advance Rotary’s mission and create lasting change in communities both locally and globally. We are pleased to share that together, we raised more than US$477 million (unaudited) in gifts and commitments during 2025-26.

These gifts empower Rotary members to carry out sustainable projects that improve people’s health, expand access to education, protect the environment, alleviate poverty, and promote peace around the globe.

Thanks to the collective efforts of Rotary members, leaders, and supporters, our Foundation was able to:

  • Award 1,804 global grants, 463 district grants, and 61 disaster response grants in 2025-26
  • Work with our partners to vaccinate more than 350 million children in 28 countries during 2025
  • Open our newest Rotary Peace Center at Symbiosis International University in India

These achievements are possible because of people like you who champion Rotary’s mission through leadership, service, advocacy, and generosity.

Our Club  Sponsorship of the Jets

Club sponsorship this year covered both S.M.A.C.K (often structured as SmackTalk) and Outside the Locker Room (OTLR) presentations were well received by footy club committee members, players, and their parents. Our club sponsorship is frequently appreciated.

S.M.A.C.K (often structured as SmackTalk) and Outside the Locker Room (OTLR) are prominent Australian mental health charities dedicated to saving lives and reducing stigma, they tackle youth and community well-being from entirely distinct operational angles.

Core Difference

S.M.A.C.K mainly focuses on individual micro-interventions, digital safety, and suicide prevention education born out of lived experience.

OTLR operates primarily as a sports-focused, structural psychoeducation and welfare network built to support grassroots community clubs.

District 9815 Conference

District 9815 Conference 2027

Posted by Mike Fink

I've heard back from some of you, but if you haven't yet reached out I'd like to know the following:

  • If you're planning to attend
  • Whether you'll book your own accommodation or would like me to organise this.
  • If you're looking for roommates to take advantage of some of the two and three bedroom accommodation options available at the Rydges resort in the Hunter Valley.
  • Your preference for a club-only dinner in town or the poolside 'Rotary Uncorked' Friday night option, which is a ticketed event you can pay for alongside your conference registration.
  • If you have any further questions.

As previously, the information about the conference is available at https://rotary9815.org.au/page/district-conference-2027 and accommodation is available at the resort where everything happens at https://www.rydges.com/rates/#/hunter-valley/ and you can use the booking code 2703ROTARY_001 to access the discounted conference rates.

The theme is 'Showtime', which gives us plenty of scope to express some creativity.
